“Eric, your Conversation With A Tree is a striking and deeply moving work of art…”
What I admire most is how you transform what others might pass by. Barbed wire becomes guitar strings, electric lines hum like music, and a spider’s web mirrors the Golden Gate Bridge. Abandoned places, weathered rocks, and faces come alive through your unique eye.
Your black-and-white photographs hold both mystery and hope — reminding me that even in decay there is beauty, and even in silence there are stories waiting to be told. A Conversation with a Tree is not just photography, it’s a journey and through it, you’ve given us a way to see the world with fresh eyes.

"Every single photo tells me an incredible story…”
Most of all, it shows me YOU. I felt as if I stepped into a journey through your heart and soul. Your book feels like a fresh beginning and reminds me of what I’ve always told my kids: if you’re afraid to fail, you’ll never truly succeed—pursue your passions, follow your desires, and embrace the risks. Eric, you are living proof of this. Keep shining your light—no one does it better! If you are on the fence about this, grab it!!!

"After seeing your book, I had a shift in perspective…”
Most of my life, I felt invisible. As a wife and mother, I was always laser-focused on my children and my husband’s career. Your photos of the homeless and the elderly revealed their humanity in a way that touched my heart deeply. Before seeing your work, I guess I felt ‘unseen.’ Your photographs helped me see my own aging face and body differently—it was a gift. Thank you for this gift and powerful book.”

"Eric and I chat on the regular and he had told me about the work he was doing for his B&W project…”
I’m so blown away by both the images and the book/printing itself. Eric’s search and growth spiritually is apparent in all of the photos. If God is in the details, you’ve definitely found Him. Eric, your hero, Ansel Adams would have given you Four Gold Stars should he still be alive today. Of course, he’s sitting with your brother Paul in heaven saying, “look at what he’s captured now.”

"Eric, I love—love—love your book…”
Each photograph takes me to a place of meditation, like hearing a favorite piece of music that unfolds note by note—I can feel the story revealing itself. I absolutely love it, and I know that each time I look, I’ll discover something new. You’ve created a beautiful piece of work! Even the packaging was fantastic, and now it sits proudly on my coffee table, a quiet companion to my days."

The second time through, the storytelling began. The photography is not only beautiful to the eyes, but it is a kickstart for the brain. You can’t help but build stories around each one. Eric, your talent is amazing and your work demands full and lingering attention. Thanks for sharing this journey with us.

'My wife and I really enjoyed reading and viewing this book…”
I was most taken with the black and white juxtaposition and contrast, and my wife really connected with the photography of human subjects. The book is very engaging and thought-provoking.

"This photo book is simply beautiful…”
The lighting and composition of the photography itself is incredible, but then the juxtaposition and layout of the images takes it to another level - and makes you want to go through it again. Each time I’ve sat with it, I notice a new detail. Very glad I was lucky enough to get a copy - well done!

"From the moment you look at the cover you’re pulled in…”
This book reveals the depth of the artist. Eric captures the quiet beauty of the American countryside in a way that feels incredibly intimate. He has a gift for capturing feeling whether it’s in the rings of a tree core, or the thin threads of a web. Images of forgotten relics seemed to hold their history, letting you almost imagine the color of the life they once had. Throughout there are small written passages that reveal who he is and how he sees the world. They give context, but also offer a peek into the heart behind the camera. In the final pages, his reflection beautifully encapsulates the constant push and pull that runs through the entire book. The balance between structure and creativity, between seeing and feeling. This is more than a book of photographs. It’s an invitation to slow down, notice, and feel. It’s a conversation not just with a tree, but with time, memory, and the beauty that still exists in the quiet places we pass by.

"A Conversation With a Tree, by Eric Hameister, is more than a “coffee table book” with amazing pictures…”
The prologue of the book/experience reveals a profound explanation of the author’s encounter with a tree - the honesty and vulnerability grabbed me immediately. From there, Eric shares his astounding talent of capturing images, which clearly convey a message beyond the actual picture. Whether its the juxtaposition of a tree and a child drawing a toy gun, a spiderweb, or the weathered face of a person living on the streets … these photographs speak to me and inspire creation of my own narrative for each image. In addition, this is not the typical bulky book which takes up an entire coffee table - it’s tailor-made to subtly enhance the living room. What a privilege to experience this photographic journey - I’m excited to share it with friends and family who visit.
